The Florida Panthers added depth at defense ahead of the regular season, signing Ryan Whitney on a one-year contract today.
Pay per head services know that Whitney was released from his tryout with the St. Louis Blues last week.
Whithey, a 30-year-old Boston native has totaled 50 goals and 209 assists in 474 career games with the Penguins, Ducks and Oilers. He spent the last three-plus seasons with the Oilers and posted 13 points, including four goals, in 34 games last year.
He was selected fifth overall by the Penguins in the 2002 NHL Entry Draft.
